✧ Guard duty at the frontier

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَكْحُولٌ قَالَ:
مَرَّ سَلْمَانُ الْفَارِسِيُّ بِشُرَحْبِيلَ بْنِ السِّمْطِ وَهُوَ مُرَابِطٌ عَلَى قَلْعَةٍ بِأَرْضِ فَارِسَ فَقَالَ لَهُ سَلْمَانُ: أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكَ حَدِيثًا لَعَلَّهُ أَنْ يَكُونَ عَوْنًا لَكَ عَلَى مَا أَنْتَ فِيهِ ؟ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: رِبَاطُ يَوْمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ صِيَامِ شَهْرٍ وَقِيَامِهِ، وَمَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ أُجِيرَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، وَنُمِّيَ لَهُ صَالِحُ عَمَلِهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ
Translation
✧ Salman al-Farisi passed by Shurahbil b. al-Simt while he was standing guard at a fortress in the land of Persia. Salman said to him, "Shall I relate to you a hadith that may be a help to you in what you are doing? I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: Guarding one day in the way of God is better than fasting a month and standing in prayer during it. Whoever dies while standing guard in the way of God will be protected from the torment of the grave, and his righteous deeds will continue to grow for him until the Day of Resurrection."
