✧ Guard duty at the frontier

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ مُكْمِلٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ يَزِيدَ بْنَ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ يَقُولُ:
جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ إِلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ فَقَالَ: " أَيْنَ كُنْتَ ؟ قَالَ: فِي الرِّبَاطِ قَالَ: " كَمْ رَابَطْتَ ؟ " قَالَ: ثَلَاثِينَ قَالَ: " فَهَلَّا أَتْمَمْتَ أَرْبَعِينَ
Translation
✧ A man of the Ansar came to Umar b. al-Khattab and said, "Where were you?" He said, "At the frontier guard post." He said, "How long did you stand guard?" He said, "Thirty [days]." He said, "Would that you had completed forty."
