Chain of narrators

machine translation9609 9515 - ʿAbd al-Razzāq, from al-Thawrī, from Abū Ḥayyān, from a shaykh from the people of Madīnah, who said: The scribe of ʿUbaydullāh b. Maʿmar narrated to me, he said:

✧ 'Abd Allah b. Abi Awfa wrote to 'Ubayd Allah b. Ma'mar, then he mentioned something similar to the hadith of Ibn Abi Awfa from Musa b. 'Uqbah, from Abu al-Nadr. He wrote on behalf of a man from Aslam among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ called 'Abd Allah b. Abi Awfa, that he wrote to 'Umar b. 'Ubayd Allah when he marched against the Haruriyyah, informing him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, during the days in which he met the enemy, would wait until the sun had declined, then he would stand among them and say: “O people, do not wish to meet the enemy. Ask Allah for well-being. If you meet them, be patient, and know that Paradise lies beneath the shade of the swords.” Then the Prophet ﷺ stood and said: “O Allah, Sender down of the Book, Mover of the clouds, Defeater of the confederates, defeat them and grant us victory over them.” He also mentioned that it reached him that the Prophet ﷺ supplicated in a similar situation, saying: “O Allah, our Lord and their Lord, we are Your servants and they are Your servants, our forelocks and their forelocks are in Your hand, so grant us victory over them.”
