✧ Protection and the protection granted by a slave and a woman

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْأَعْمَشَ يَقُولُ:
الْتَقَتْ خَيْلَانِ، خَيْلٌ لِلدَّيْلَمِ، وَخَيْلٌ لِلْعَرَبِ، فَانْكَشَفَتِ الْخَيْلُ فَإِذَا صَرِيعٌ بَيْنَهُمْ قَالَ: فَأَقْبَلَتِ الْعَرَبُ وَحَسِبَتْ أَنَّهُ مِنْهُمْ، وَقَالَ: لَا بَأْسَ، فَلَمَّا غَشَوْهُ إِذَا هُمْ بِرَجُلٍ مِنَ الدَّيْلَمِ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: وَاللهِ لَقَدْ آمَنَّاهُ وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: وَاللهِ مَا آمَنَّاهُ. وَمَا كُنَّا نَرَى إِلَّا أَنَّهُ مِنَّا فَأَجْمَعَ رَأْيُهُمْ عَلَى أَنَّهُمْ قَدْ آمَنُوهُ
Translation
✧ Two cavalry forces met, a cavalry of the Daylam and a cavalry of the Arabs. The cavalry was routed, and there was a fallen man among them. He said: 'The Arabs came forward and thought he was one of them, and said: No harm.' When they surrounded him, behold, he was a man from the Daylam. Some of them said: 'By God, we have granted him protection.' Others said: 'By God, we did not grant him protection; we only thought he was one of us.' Their opinion agreed that they had granted him protection.
