✧ The obligation of jihad

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ، عَنْ حُرَيْثٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ يَقُولُ:

كَذَبَ، عَلَيْكُمْ ثَلَاثَةُ أَسْفَارٍ، كَذَبَ، عَلَيْكُمُ الْحَجُّ وَالْعُمْرَةُ، وَالْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، وَأَنْ يَبْتَغِيَ الرَّجُلُ بِفَضْلِ مَالِهِ، وَالْمُسْتَنْفِقُ وَالْمُتَصَدِّقُ، يَقُولُ: عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْحَجِّ وَالْعُمْرَةِ وَالْجِهَادِ

Translation

✧ He lied. Upon you are three journeys: he lied. Upon you are Hajj, ʿUmrah, and jihad in the path of Allah, and that a man seeks profit from his surplus wealth; the spender and the giver of charity. He says: Upon you are Hajj, ʿUmrah, and jihad.
