✧ The Game of the Trained Animal, and Whether Hunting Dogs Are Sent after Carrion

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَالَ:

سُئِلَ عَنِ الصَّقْرِ، وَالْبَازِيِّ، وَالْفَهْدِ، وَمَا يُصْطَادُ بِهِ مِنَ السِّبَاعِ، فَقَالَ: " هَذِهِ كُلُّهَا جَوَارِحُ " قَالَ مَعْمَرٌ: وَقَالَ حَمَّادٌ " ذَلِكَ غَيْرَ أَنَّ الصَّقْرَ وَالْبَازِيَّ إِذَا أَكَلَا مِنْ صَيْدِهِمَا أُكِلَ مِنْهُ، وَإِذَا أَكَلَ الْكَلْبُ، وَالْفَهْدُ لَمْ يُؤْكَلْ "

Translation

✧ He was asked about the falcon, the hawk, the cheetah, and what is hunted with among the beasts of prey. He said: "All of these are hunting animals." Mamar said: And Hammad said: "That is so, except that when the falcon and the hawk eat from their prey, it may be eaten, but when the dog and the cheetah eat, it may not be eaten."
