عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ بْنِ يُونُسَ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَشْعَثُ بْنُ أَبِي الشَّعْثَاءِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، وَالْحَارِثِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ، قَالَا:
أَتَيْنَا دَارَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، فَإِذَا غِلْمَتُهُ قَدْ أَخَذُوا حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ فَضَرَبَهُ بَعْضُهُمْ بِسَيْفِهِ عَلَى مِنْخَرِهِ، فَقَالَ: أَتَرَوْنَ عَبْدَ اللهِ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ ؟ قَالَ: فَقَعَدْنَا إِلَيْهِ لِنَنْظُرَ مَا يَصْنَعُ قَالَ: فَأُتِينَا بِقَصْعَةٍ مِنْهُ قَالَ: فَذَكَرْنَا لَهُ مَا رَأَيْنَا، فَقَالَ: " إِنَّمَا هُوَ صَيْدٌ
Translation
✧ We came to the house of 'Abd Allah b. Mas'ud, and his servant boys had caught a wild donkey, and one of them struck it with his sword on its snout. He said: Do you think 'Abd Allah will eat from it? He said: We sat with him to see what he would do. He said: A dish of it was brought to us. He said: We mentioned to him what we had seen, and he said: "It is only game."
