✧ Hastening the breaking of the fast

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ صَاحِبٍ لَهُ، عَنْ عَوْفٍ، عَنْ أَبِي رَجَاءٍ قَالَ:
كُنْتُ أَشْهَدُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ عِنْدَ الْفِطْرِ فِي رَمَضَانَ، فَكَانَ يُوضَعُ طَعَامُهُ، ثُمَّ يَأْمُرُ مُرَاقِبًا يُرَاقِبُ الشَّمْسَ، فَإِذَا قَالَ: وَجَبَتْ قَالَ: " كُلُوا "، قَالَ: ثُمَّ كُنَّا نُفْطِرُ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ
Translation
✧ I used to attend Ibn ʿAbbās at the breaking of the fast in Ramaḍān. His food would be set out, then he would order a watcher to watch the sun. When he said: 'It has set,' he said: 'Eat.' He said: Then we would break the fast before the prayer.
