✧ The use of siwak for the fasting person

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:

قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: أَيَتَسَوَّكُ الصَّائِمُ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ، قِيلَ لَهُ: أَيَزْدَرِدُ رِيقَهُ ؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: فَفَعَلَ فَأَفْطَرَ ؟ قَالَ: " لَا، وَلَكِنْ يُنْهَى عَنْ ذَلِكَ "، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: فَإِنِ ازْدَرَدَهُ، وَهُوَ يُقَالُ لَهُ: إِنَّهُ يُنْهَى عَنْ ذَلِكَ ؟ قَالَ: " قَدْ أَفْطَرَ إِذًا، غَيْرَ مَرَّةٍ يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ

Translation

✧ I said to Ata: 'May the fasting person use the siwak?' He said: 'Yes.' It was said to him: 'May he swallow his saliva?' He said: I said: 'So if he does that, has he broken his fast?' He said: 'No, but it is discouraged.' He said: I said: 'What if he swallows it while he is being told that it is discouraged?' He said: 'Then he has broken his fast,' and he repeated that more than once.
