عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ، عَنْ شِبَاكٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ:
كَتَبَ عُمَرُ إِلَى عُتْبَةَ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ: إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْهِلَالَ نَهَارًا قَبْلَ أَنْ تَزُولَ الشَّمْسُ تَمَامَ ثَلَاثِينَ فَأَفْطِرُوا، وَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ بَعْدَ أَنْ تَزُولَ الشَّمْسُ فَلَا تُفْطِرُوا حَتَّى تُمْسُوا
Translation
✧ ʿUmar wrote to ʿUtbah b. Farqad: If you see the crescent during the day before the sun begins to decline, completing thirty days, then break the fast; and if you see it after the sun begins to decline, do not break the fast until evening comes.
