✧ Are Muslims Made to Swear Regarding Their Zakat

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ قَالَ:
لَا يُسْتَحْلَفُ بِالْمُصْحَفِ مَنْ أَدَّى شَيْئًا قُبِلَ مِنْهُ، وَهُمْ مُؤْتَمَنُونَ عَلَى زَكَاتِهِمْ كَمَا يُؤْتَمَنُونَ عَلَى صَلَاتِهِمْ "، قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ: " وَكَتَبَ رَجَاءُ بْنُ رَوْحٍ إِلَى الثَّوْرِيِّ: هَلْ يُسْتَحْلَفُ النَّاسُ عَلَى زَكَاتِهِمْ بِالْمُصْحَفِ، فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ بِهَذَا، وَكَانَ الثَّوْرِيُّ بِمَكَّةَ
Translation
✧ No one is made to swear by the muṣḥaf; whoever pays something, it is accepted from him. They are entrusted with their zakat as they are entrusted with their prayer." ʿAbd al-Razzāq said: 'Rajāʾ b. Rūḥ wrote to al-Thawrī: Are people made to swear regarding their zakat by the muṣḥaf? He wrote back to him with this, while al-Thawrī was in Makkah.'
