Musannaf 'Abd al-Razzaq 7225

✧ For Whom Is Zakat

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ قَالَ:

الرَّجُلُ لَا يُعْطِي زَكَاةَ مَالِهِ مَنْ يُحْبَسُ عَلَى النَّفَقَةِ مِنْ ذَوِي أَرْحَامِهِ، وَلَا يُعْطِيهَا فِي كَفَنِ مَيِّتٍ، وَلَا دَيْنِ مَيِّتٍ، وَلَا بِنَاءِ مَسْجِدٍ، وَلَا شِرَاءِ مُصْحَفٍ، وَلَا يُحَجُّ بِهَا، وَلَا تُعْطِيهَا مُكَاتَبَكَ، وَلَا تَبْتَاعُ بِهَا نَسَمَةً تُحَرِّرُهَا، وَلَا تُعْطِيهَا فِي الْيَهُودِ، وَلَا النَّصَارَى، وَلَا تَسْتَأْجِرُ عَلَيْهَا مِنْهَا مَنْ يَحْمِلُهَا لِيَحْمِلَهَا مِنْ مَكَانٍ إِلَى مَكَانٍ

Translation

✧ A man should not give the zakat of his wealth to those of his relatives whose maintenance is obligatory upon him, nor should he give it for the shroud of a deceased person, nor for the debt of a deceased person, nor for building a mosque, nor for purchasing a copy of the Qur'an, nor should Hajj be performed with it, nor should he give it to his mukatab (a slave who has contracted to buy his freedom), nor should he use it to buy a slave to set free, nor should he give it to Jews or Christians, nor should he hire someone with it to carry it from one place to another.
