✧ No Zakat Except on Cash
7174 قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ: وَحَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي يَزِيدَ نَحْوَ ذَلِكَ عَنْ زِيَادٍ. متن مخفيإِنِّي لَجَالِسٌ عِنْدَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ إِذْ جَاءَهُ زِيَادٌ الْبَوَّابُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لِابْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ يَقُولُ أَرْسِلْ بِزَكَاةِ مَالِكَ قَالَ الجزء الرابع هُوَ أَرْسَلَكَ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَمَا رَاجَعَهُ غَيْرَهَا حَتَّى قَامَ فَأَخْرَجَ مِائَةَ دِرْهَمٍ قَالَ فَاقْرَأْ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ وَقُلْ إِنَّمَا الزَّكَاةُ مِنَ النَّاضِّ قَالَ نَافِعٌ فَلَقِيتُ بَعْدُ زِيَادًا فَقُلْتُ أَبَلَّغْتَهُ مَا قَالَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قُلْتُ فَمَاذَا قَالَ قَالَ صَدَقَ سند مخفيقَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ: وَحَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي يَزِيدَ نَحْوَ ذَلِكَعَنْ زِيَادٍ: إِنَّ
Translation
✧ 7174 Ibn Jurayj said: And 'Ubayd Allah b. Abi Yazid narrated to me something similar from Ziyad. Hidden Matn: I was sitting with 'Abd al-Rahman b. Nafi' when Ziyad the doorkeeper came to him and said: 'The Commander of the Faithful—referring to Ibn al-Zubayr—says: Send the zakat of your wealth.' He said: 'Did he send you?' He said: 'Yes.' He did not respond to anything else until he stood up and brought out one hundred dirhams. He said: 'Convey peace to him and say: Zakat is only due on cash.' Nafi' said: 'I later met Ziyad and asked: Did you convey to him what he said?' He said: 'Yes.' I asked: 'What did he say?' He said: 'He spoke the truth.' Hidden Chain: Ibn Jurayj said: And 'Ubayd Allah b. Abi Yazid narrated to me something similar from Ziyad.
