Translation

✧ Zakat is not due on wealth until it reaches twenty dinars. When it reaches twenty dinars, half a dinar is due. Then for every four dinars the wealth increases, one dirham is due, until the wealth reaches forty dinars, then one dinar for every forty dinars. He said: 'On twenty-four dinars, half a dinar and a dirham.' I said: 'So on twenty dinars is half a dinar, accepted?' He said: 'Yes, unless it is after that for a while.' I said to him: 'If a man has nineteen dinars, he has nothing else, and the exchange rate is twelve or thirteen per dinar, is zakat due on it?' He said: 'Yes, if when exchanged it would reach two hundred dirhams. That was when silver was not gold.' He said: 'Zakat is not due on silver until it reaches two hundred dirhams. When it reaches two hundred dirhams, five dirhams are due. Then for every forty dirhams the wealth increases, one dirham.' And 'Amr b. Dinar said that. He said: 'Ata' said: 'Until the wealth reaches four hundred dirhams, then for every four hundred dirhams ten dirhams.' I said: 'Two hundred dirhams and twenty dirhams?' He said: 'Nothing is due on twenty dirhams.' And 'Amr b. Dinar said that to me.
