✧ The bier and seeking forgiveness
6293 6242 - عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ حَرْمَلَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ مِثْلَهُ.

كُنْتُ مَعَ ابْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ فِي جِنَازَةٍ فَسَمِعَ رَجُلًا يَقُولُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا اللهَ فَقَالَ مَا يَقُولُ رَاجِزُهُمْ هَذَا قَدْ حَرَّجْتُ عَلَى أَهْلِي أَنْ يَرْجُزَ مَعِي رَاجِزُهُمْ هَذَا وَأَنْ يَقُولَ مَاتَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ فَاشْهَدُوهُ حَسْبِي مَنْ يَقْلِبُنِي إِلَى رَبِّي وَأَنْ يَمْشُوا مَعِي بِمِجْمَرَةٍ فَإِنْ يَكُنْ لِي عِنْدَ رَبِّي خَيْرٌ فَمَا عِنْدَ اللهِ أَطْيَبُ مِنْ طِيبِكُمْ
Translation
✧ I was with Ibn al-Musayyib at a funeral when he heard a man saying: Seek forgiveness from Allah. He said: What is this reciter of theirs saying? I have made it binding upon my family that this reciter of theirs should not recite with me, nor say: Saʿīd b. al-Musayyib has died, so bear witness. Sufficient for me is the One Who will turn me over to my Lord. And that they should not walk with me with an incense burner, for if I have any good with my Lord, then what is with Allah is more fragrant than your perfume.
