✧ Washing the Feet

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:
قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: لِمَ لَا أَمْسَحُ بِالْقَدَمَيْنِ كَمَا أَمْسَحُ بِالرَّأْسِ وَقَدْ قَالَهُمَا جَمِيعًا ؟ قَالَ: لَا أَرَاهُ إِلَّا مَسْحَ الرَّأْسَ وَغَسْلَ الْقَدَمَيْنِ، إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ: وَيْلٌ لِلْأَعْقَابِ مِنَ النَّارِ. قَالَ عَطَاءٌ: وَإِنَّ أُنَاسًا لَيَقُولُونَ: هُوَ الْمَسْحُ، وَأَمَّا أَنَا فَأَغْسِلُهُمَا
Translation
✧ I said to Ata, “Why should I not wipe the feet as I wipe the head, when he mentioned both of them together?” He said, “I only regard it as wiping the head and washing the feet. I heard Abu Hurayra say, ‘Woe to the heels from the Fire.’” Ata said, “Some people say it is wiping, but as for me, I wash them.”
