✧ The two Eids falling on the same day

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، وَابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ، مَوْلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ قَالَ:
شَهِدْتُ عُثْمَانَ وَاجْتَمَعَ فِطْرٌ وَجُمُعَةٌ، فَخَطَبَ عُثْمَانُ النَّاسَ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " إِنَّ هَذَيْنِ الْعِيدَيْنِ قَدِ اجْتَمَعَا فِي يَوْمٍ وَاحِدٍ، فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعَوَالِي فَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَمْكُثَ حَتَّى يَشْهَدَ الْجُمُعَةَ فَلْيَفْعَلْ، وَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يَنْصَرِفَ فَقَدْ أَذِنَّا لَهُ
Translation
✧ I witnessed 'Uthman when Fitr and Jumu'ah coincided. 'Uthman addressed the people after the prayer, then said: "These two Eids have coincided on one day. Whoever is from the people of the 'Awali and wishes to remain until he witnesses Jumu'ah, let him do so; and whoever wishes to leave, we have permitted him."
