✧ What Necessitates Silence on Friday

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَبِي عَامِرٍ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ قَالَ:
إِنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ: قَلَّ مَا يَدَعُ أَنْ يَخْطُبَ بِهِ الْإِمَامُ إِذَا قَامَ: اسْتَمِعُوا وَأَنْصِتُوا، فَإِنَّ لِلْمُنْصِتِ الَّذِي لَا يَسْمَعُ مِنَ الْخُطْبَةِ، مِثْلَ مَا لِلْمُسْتَمِعِ الْمُنْصِتِ، فَإِذَا قَامَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَاعْدِلُوا الصُّفُوفَ، وَحَاذُوا بِالْمَنَاكِبِ، فَإِنَّ اعْتِدَالَ الصَّفِّ مِنْ تَمَامِ الصَّلَاةِ، ثُمَّ لَا يُكَبِّرُ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ رِجَالٌ، وَكَّلَهُمْ بِتَسْوِيَةِ الصُّفُوفِ، فَيُخْبِرُوهُ أَنَّهَا قَدِ اسْتَوَتْ فَيُكَبِّرُ
Translation
✧ He used to say in his sermon: It is rare for the imam to omit saying when he stands: Listen and be silent, for the silent one who does not hear the sermon has the like of what the listening silent one has. When the prayer is established, straighten the rows and align the shoulders, for the straightness of the row is part of the completeness of the prayer. Then he does not say takbir until men come whom he has entrusted with straightening the rows and inform him that they are straight, then he says takbir.
