عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ مُجَالِدِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ قَيْسِ بْنِ عَبْدٍ قَالَ:
اخْتَلَفْتُ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ سَنَةً فَمَا رَأَيْتُهُ مُصَلِّيًا صَلَاةَ الضُّحَى وَلَا صَائِمًا يَوْمًا مِنْ غَيْرِ رَمَضَانَ، قَالَ: فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَهُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ أُتِيَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ: هَذَا رَسُولُ الْوَلِيدِ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: " أَطْفِئُوا الْمِصْبَاحَ "، فَدَخَلَ فَقَالَ لَهُ: إِنَّ الْأَمِيرَ يَقُولُ لَكَ: اتْرُكْ هَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ الَّتِي تَقُولُ، قَالَ: " وَمَا هُنَّ ؟ " قَالَ: " هَذِهِ الْكَلِمَاتُ ؟ " قَالَ: فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُرَدِّدُهُنَّ قَالَ قَوْلُكَ: كُلُّ مُحْدَثَةٍ بِدْعَةٌ قَالَ: " إِنِّي لَنْ أَتْرُكَهُنَّ " قَالَ: فَإِنَّهُ يَقُولُ لَكَ: فَاخْرُجْ قَالَ: " فَإِنِّي خَارِجٌ " قَالَ: فَخَرَجَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ
Translation
✧ I frequented Abd Allah b. Mas'ud for a year and never saw him pray the Duha prayer or fast any day outside Ramadan. He said: While we were with him one night, someone came and said to him: This is the messenger of al-Walid. Abd Allah said: "Extinguish the lamp." Then he entered and said to him: The amir says to you: Abandon these words that you say. He said: "And what are they?" He said: "These words?" He kept repeating them. He said: Your saying: Every innovation is a misguidance. He said: "I will never abandon them." He said: Then he says to you: Then leave. He said: "Then I am leaving." So he left for Madinah.
