Translation

✧ We said to him: "Tell us about the voluntary prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." He said: "And who can bear it?" We said to him: "Tell us, and we will bear of it what we can." He said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would wait, and when the sun rose and appeared, its height from the east being like its height at 'Asr, he would pray two rak'ahs, separating them with a greeting upon the angels brought near, the prophets, and those who followed him among the believers and Muslims. Then he would wait until the forenoon was high, and its height from the east being like its height at Zuhr, he would pray four rak'ahs, separating them with the greeting as he did in the first ones. Then when the sun declined, he would stand and pray four rak'ahs, separating them with a greeting upon the angels brought near, the prophets, and those who followed him among the believers and Muslims. Then he would pray two rak'ahs after Zuhr like that, then he would pray four rak'ahs before 'Asr, separating them with the like of that."
