عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمَّارٍ الدُّهْنِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، أَوْ غَيْرِهِ، أَنَّ عَلِيًّا،
اسْتَتَابَ الْمُسْتَوْرِدَ الْعِجْلِيَّ وَهُوَ يُرِيدُ الصَّلَاةَ، وَقَالَ: إِنِّي أَسْتَعِينُ بِاللهِ عَلَيْكَ، فَقَالَ: وَأَنَا أَسْتَعِينُ الْمَسِيحَ عَلَيْكَ، قَالَ: فَأَهْوَى عَلِيٌّ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى عُنُقِهِ فَإِذَا هُوَ بِصَلِيبٍ فَقَطَعَهَا، فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ قَدَّمَ رَجُلًا وَذَهَبَ، ثُمَّ أَخْبَرَ النَّاسَ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يُحْدِثْ ذَلِكَ بِحَدَثٍ أَحْدَثَهُ لَكِنَّهُ مَسَّ هَذِهِ الْأَنْجَاسَ فَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يُحْدِثَ مِنْهَا وُضُوءًا
Translation
✧ Ali asked al-Mustawrid al-Ijli to repent while he was intending to pray, and said: 'I seek God's help against you.' He said: 'And I seek the Messiah's help against you.' Ali reached his hand to his neck and found a cross, so he cut it off. When he entered prayer, he put forward a man and left. Then he told the people that he had not done that because of any ritual impurity, but because he had touched those impurities and wanted to perform ablution because of them.
