✧ Wudu of Men and Women Together

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ بْنِ يُونُسَ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَامَةَ الْحَبِيبِيِّ قَالَ:
رَأَيْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ أَتَى حِيَاضًا عَلَيْهَا الرِّجَالُ وَالنِّسَاءُ يَتَوَضَّئُونَ جَمِيعًا، فَضَرَبَهُمْ بِالدِّرَّةِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِصَاحِبِ الْحَوْضِ: اجْعَلْ لِلرِّجَالِ حِيَاضًا، وَلِلنِّسَاءِ حِيَاضًا ثُمَّ لَقِيَ عَلِيًّا فَقَالَ: مَا تَرَى ؟ فَقَالَ: أَرَى إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ رَاعٍ، فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَضْرِبُهُمْ عَلَى غَيْرِ ذَلِكَ فَقَدْ هَلَكْتَ وَأَهْلَكْتَ
Translation
✧ I saw Umar b. al-Khattab come to basins at which men and women were all performing wudu, and he struck them with the whip. Then he said to the owner of the basin: 'Make basins for men and basins for women.' Then he met Ali and said: 'What do you think?' He said: 'I think you are only a shepherd. If you strike them for anything other than that, you have perished and caused others to perish.'
