Machine translation, not reviewed
A man came to Ibn Masʿūd and said: "I divorced my wife by the number of the stars." Ibn Masʿūd said a word concerning the women of the people of the earth which I do not remember. He said: Another man came to him and said: "I divorced my wife eight times." Ibn Masʿūd said: "Do these words mean that you want her to be irrevocably separated from you?" He said: "Yes." Ibn Masʿūd said: "O people, Allah has made divorce clear. Whoever divorces as Allah commanded him has made it clear, and whoever confuses the matter, we will leave him in his confusion. By Allah, you shall not confuse matters for yourselves and then have us carry it for you. Yes, it is as he says."
