I entered upon Ibn ʿAbbās, and with him was his freedman Abū al-Ṣahbāʾ. Abū al-Ṣahbāʾ asked him about a man who divorces his wife three times all at once. Ibn ʿAbbās said: "They used to count it as one during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abū Bakr, and during the rule of ʿUmar except for a little of it, until ʿUmar addressed the people and said: You have made too much of this divorce, so whoever says anything, it stands according to what he has spoken."
